Five of the world best shapers and a major part of the Quiksilver family arrived in the UK last week. They included ex 4 x World Champion Mark Richards, big wave hell man Wayne Lynch, innovator of the 3 fin thruster shortboard Simon Anderson, as well as Quiksilver shapers Mark Phipps and Phil Grace. These living legends are in the UK to visit selected “core” stores in the South West, which included Big Wednesday, North Shore, Boardwalk, and Surfing Life.

Whilst in store they were keen to discuss aspects of surfboard shaping, design and future of the modern surfboard and sharing their personal surfing stories. They have had a fantastic reception, whether planned or unplanned. Also meeting up with our local shapers Chops and Graeme Bunt and travelling shapers like Frank McWilliams as well as taking part in poster signings and a chance to win the surfboard of your dreams in a prize give away.

It is good to know that although UK conditions are not always the most inviting for foreign travelling surfers, these guys have taken time to visit our surf rich area and spend time with their much admiring fans. It was a shame that the surf conditions weren’t perfect for them to sample some of the waves we have to offer. But we hope they will return again soon.

Underground tube master Robin Kent from St Agnes, in Cornwall, and turbo-charged surf photographer/journalist Mikey Smith from Penzance presented the 'Search for Isolation' concept to the surf company back in early September 05.

With much of surf exploration taking place in the warmer waters of the southern hemisphere, the hunters decided it was time to turn the tables and start a search for new un-ridden frontiers in the Northern hemisphere - throughout the cold waters of the Atlantic.

The fundamental idea behind this project is to track the huge low-pressure systems and find the best un-ridden heavy-wave destinations around the North Atlantic from October 05 - March 06, documenting their discoveries on the way.
